Born in the jungles of Luzon, raised in the neon flashing lights of Las Vegas, I have traversed the world to find truth, justice, and the cosmopolitan way. In my travels, I found that generally it is not good to generalize. So I try to find the nuances in the stories I read and write; the exceptions to every rule. My writing experience mostly consists of essays for courses, one chef d’oeuvre on Filipino music, and currently as a staff writer for the Rebel Yell. My work can also be found on the Huffington Post - Off the Bus blog and on my sister blog, The Student Socialite. Neon Feminism is about the struggles and successes of women and women’s rights here in the Vegas Valley. It may seem like a dichotomy, but there are feminists here in this tawdry bikini clad town. You just have to look beyond the billboards. Whatever the story may be - strippers unionizing, women protesting labor laws, women in traditionally male dominated fields - if it concerns women, I’m on it. This blog is a project for my advanced reporting class at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
