As someone who takes birth control, this is a serious issue for me as well. I called up UNLV to see how much my pack of Orthotryclen-Lo would cost: $45. I pay $25 at Planned Parenthood. I don’t understand why or how increasing the price of pill packs helps our society. Does our government want more unplanned pregnancies?

Recently Congress passed a law making the cost of Birth Control skyrocket. The cost of birth control has gone from $5-10 per pack to $40-50 per pack, nearly a 900% increase here in Nevada and across the country. This increase is mostly affecting college age and low income women. Affordable Birth Control is basic health care and all women should be able to afford it. Women should not be forced to choose between a tank of gas and a pack of birth control.
I recently spoke with a young woman who came into our health center to buy her birth control. She wanted to sign our Affordable Birth Control pledge because she said that she had been getting her pills at UNLV for years, but she no longer could afford to buy them at the University so she came to Planned Parenthood. She wanted her voice to be heard so she added her name to the over 200 others who have signed our Affordable Birth Control pledge. Now we need you to flex YOUR muscle and contact Senator Reid because this is unacceptable.
Nevada’s very own Senator Harry Reid can help us fix this crisis. There is a no cost solution that can fix this situation and restore Affordable Birth Control.
We must let Senator Reid know that this issue is important to all of us. We need Senator Reid’s leadership to solve this crisis.

Please join us for the second Protect Women’s Health Live Action Camp on Saturday, April 5. At this free, day-long training, we will be talking about different elements of being an activist with Planned Parenthood, how to lobby your legislators, the history of reproductive rights in Nevada, legislative issues, phonebank and visibility action, and you will get to meet other Planned Parenthood supporters like yourself.
The camp will be held from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm and additional information about the location is to come. We will provide lunch, snacks and all the materials you need to make the day a success! Hope to see you there!
